HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE GREAT BUYS DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH

MARCH IS FROZEN FOOD MONTH:

Manufacturers make special coupons and give special deals to retailers for frozen foods during the month of March, so they can put them on sale, and you can amp up the savings with coupons as well. It is a great time to stock up.

Since the goal is to eat real food, great items to stock up on and have in your freezer would include frozen fruits and veggies, fruit juice concentrates, chicken parts, and hamburger patties. And who can refuse the occasional super deals on ice cream?

Be looking for sales and matching coupons available in Sunday newspapers and online. Before you buy a boatload of frozen food, be sure that you have the freezer space to store it.

FRESH PRODUCE BUYS FOR MARCH:

Be looking for some good buys on seasonal produce during March.  Citrus fruit is still a good value, as well as artichokes.  Look for good prices on cabbage and potatoes and even whole carrots, right in time for Saint Patrick’s day – March 17th. The first asparagus and strawberries of the season are starting to show up in stores, as well as fresh spinach and radishes. Apples and pears from controlled atmosphere warehouses are also readily available with fairly good prices.

HAM AND EGGS AND CORNED BEEF:

Don’t forget to pick up a corned beef brisket or two with the St. Patrick’s day sales. Egg production is starting to increase so look for the prices of eggs to come down, just in time for Easter.  Speaking of Easter, there will also be some good sale prices on hams and turkeys, which include turkey breasts as well as whole birds.

CANDY AND DRESS CLOTHING:

Easter time also is a great time to shop for dress clothes – suits, ties and dress shirts for men. Boy’s suits and accessories are also readily available with good sale prices.  A good variety of little girl and big girl dresses are also really available and you’ll find some great sales on beautiful spring ladies dresses as well.  Those beautiful confections remind me that bagged candy prices are low (comparable to Halloween.)

WINTER APPAREL CLEARANCES:

Look for coats – (last year I saw children’s coats at Walmart discounted 75%), sleepwear, boots and slippers. Other winter apparel are also great buys. Check retail ads to see if there are special days with extra percentages off of clearance items, on top of the clearance price.  Retailers are looking to fill their spaces with money making spring clothing and shoes, so hurry!

TRAVEL DISCOUNTS ARE PLENTIFUL IN MARCH:

The best time to buy airline tickets has changed to Sundays evening. The old adage of Tuesdays being best, now appears to be a thing of the past.  Sign up with your favorite airline, or travel discounter, like Price line, Hot wire, Cheap Tickets etc, and they will send you email or Facebook notices when they are having their March sales.  Currently Alaska Airlines is holding a big sale. Asia Air has an unbelievable deal for 30 days worth of travel on any of their Asian routes for only $160, or two months of travel for $290. This is also the time to check out cruises for some of the best prices of the year.

If you need new luggage March is also a good time for sales on luggage.  Check out retailers like Ross Dress for Less and TJ Maxx for good buys all year long.

MARCH MADNESS IS COMING, AND BIG SCREEN TVs ARE ALSO GOOD BUYS:

The ultimate College Basketball Tournament starts on March 17, with games every day that week and again the next two weekends ending April 6th. The best prices this month will likely be for LCD big screen TVs from 42″ to 50.”

CLEANING SUPPLIES AND HOME FRAGRANCES HAVE SOME GREAT DEALS:

March is a great month to stock up on cleaning supplies, and laundry soap. There are great coupon deals available, and retailers often put them on sale as well.

HERE ARE SOME ITEMS THAT MIGHT BE GOOD BUYS IN THE WARMER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY DURING MARCH:

Clearance on winter goods like snow shovels, heaters, blankets and ice melt may be available in the warmer parts of the USA, but some areas of the country are still needing them right now, and there may be short supplies in those areas, with few sales even later in the season.

Garden supplies may have good prices in some parts of the country where it is getting safe to plant, others, like Central Washington, where I live, will have better prices during April and May. If you want primroses or pansies, now is a great time to buy them in the cooler areas, and buy your seeds right away to plant your starter seeds.

Paint and painting supplies will be on sale in parts of the country where it is warm enough to paint outside, or have the windows open, to paint inside, but expect paint sales in the cooler states to come in April or May.

Lots of great tips for savings in March, Marjie! I’m having kind of a bummer of a day, but I perked right up when you mentioned ice cream lol!

The AirAsia deal is amazing, but I have to admit I’d be very nervous to fly them right now, even if the chance of another disaster is slim.

I think that I would also be nervous to fly on AirAsia. It is quite the deal, though. My daughter is a world traveler and she was kind of disappointed that she already had tickets to fly to Europe for her vacation this year, before the AirAsia sale came up.

    Great tips!
I’ve definitely seen asparagus and strawberries creep in the stores. Thanks for reminding me about the corned beef! Maybe my twins will like the flavor? Gotta give it a try.

I think we even have a little asparagus in our tiny plot, here in our yard. I can’t wait for strawberries to come down a bit more.

I love these type posts! I grocery shopped today and got cabbage for .18/# and 3 cantaloupes for $5 (I’m in the Deep South). I love having fresh produce available, and seasonal sales are wonderful!
We’re already seeing strong markdowns on winter clothing. It’s the very best time to invest in winter clothes for us since our winters are short & relatively mild – which makes full price seem ridiculous.
    Thanks for your great post!

I would love to find cabbage for .18/#, but did manage to get mine for .28, which is good for here in the Northwest right now. I loved living in the South, (we lived in SC for 7 years) but did miss the cold weather.

Thanks for stopping by. We bought our first flat screen TV last year when the sales came along. I’m really looking forward to the strawberries too. I do wish that there were more great deals on Organic ones.

Enjoyed your article too, Marla. I sure do wish there were more organic strawberries and asparagus available. We have a tiny patch of organic asparagus in our yard and it is fun to cut it and eat it! Thanks for stopping by!
